Eva strode into the glass and marble foyer of the offices housing her great aunt’s lawyers, she was very good at appearing comfortable in places designed to intimidate and the receptionist looked slightly put out at Eva’s breezy greeting.
“I’m sorry, but Mr Harrison is not available this afternoon. He’s in very important client meetings.”
“Yes, with me. I’m Evangelina Stone.”
The receptionist stopped just short of a snort. “And can you prove that?”
She was a snotty cow, but the woman was an amateur compared to the gatekeepers of the executive offices and VIPs of Hong Kong.
Eva pulled out her passport, and showed her phone screen, displaying the email from Mr Harrison, inviting her to tea and a conversation that afternoon. She probably should have been a little more offended at the dropped jaw in front of her but was too busy being amused. The receptionist flushed at Eva’s smirk and picked up the phone.
“Ms Stone for Mr Harrison.”
She listened for a moment then replaced the receiver and with a sour smile said. “Please take the lift to the fifth floor. Mr Harrison’s secretary will meet you there.”
“Thank you so much.”
The lift arrived quickly, so Eva didn’t have to ignore the daggers being stared at her back for very long. She wondered if the receptionist knew how clearly she could be seen in the mirrored doors.
