Steering the Craft – Repetition

Rebecca watched the raindrops chase each other down the giant wall of glass facing her desk. It was a glorious view on sunny days, but on ones like this, when the clouds came low and the rain looked like it was ready for a re-do of the forty days and forty nights flood story, it was grey and dismal and dragged everything else down with it.

But there was no time for moping, work was busy, and she had to show energy, and enthusiasm, and… it wasn’t working.

She was probably dehydrated, forgetting she needed to drink since it was so wet outside. She glugged her glass of water and wished it was hot chocolate. And that she was curled up under a soft, fluffy blanket, in front of an open fire, with a good book, and no deadlines.

A walk, perhaps? Get the blood moving.

She grabbed the now-empty glass and headed for the kitchen area where she interrupted an intense conversation between Jake and Sarah, but pretended she didn’t notice. Sarah would message her later with some excuse, such a waste of time. Everyone knew what those two were up to, and whispered and tutted, but they were both single. What was the problem? Rebecca just could not be bothered.
