“It’s not healthy to skip meals.”
“I’m not skipping, Grams, I’m meeting my friends for lunch.” Alison paused with her hand on the door handle but didn’t turn around. She’d been so, so close to getting out without being noticed.
She saw Tim standing half behind Grams in the reflection of the window by the door. Rotten little snitch. She’d have to pay him back.
In fact, she could do it now.
She turned. “We’re going to that nice place you recommended. You know, the one with the proper healthy meals. I wanted to try the quinoa salad you said was so good.”
Tim snorted. “Yeah sure.”
Alison snorted back. “Just because you sneak out for greasy chips and burgers full of preservatives every Saturday, when you say you’re going to the park to play football…”
Tim’s expression changed from smug to scared. Grams turned to look at him. “You what?”
“She’s lying Grams, honest, I’d never…”
“I’ve got photos.” Alison pulled her phone out of her bag and waved it at her brother.
“I was just sitting with my mates. Didn’t even get a drink, I mean, just water. You always say it’s important to be polite Grams.”
Alison suppressed another snort, both she and Tim knew her pictures would put paid to that lie as well, but she decided to be kind.
Tucking her phone back into her bag, she turned back towards the door, hopefully she could get out of it this time. “Anyway, I’ve gotta go, or I’ll be late, and that’s impolite too. Bye.”
